SeaDek Hosts Melbourne High School Academy of Business and Finance

Always striving to play an active role in the community, and working to help combat workforce issues that are plaguing the marine industry, SeaDek was honored to welcome students from the Melbourne High School Academy of Business and Finance into the factory last week.

After donuts and a welcome by COO Serenity Gardner, the students (many unfamiliar with modern day manufacturing) were taken through the SeaDek production facility and introduced to the many facets of manufacturing, as well as the exciting career opportunities that exist in a wide variety of fields, such as CAD design, sales, quality control, marketing, and human resources.
Many students don’t realize how technology has changed the way manufacturing takes place, with the stereotypical dark and dusty factory still fresh in their minds. As VP of Marketing Jason Gardner led the students across the factory, his message was clear—“This is not your Grandfather’s manufacturing job.”

With workforce issues a recurring problem in the industry, SeaDek has made an effort at the local level through partnerships with high schools and community colleges, as well as getting involved at the national level by sponsoring initiatives by groups such as the MRAA, and lobbying on Capitol Hill at the American Boating Congress.

It is always great to have the students from Melbourne High School at the factory, and look forward to their next visit!
