This weekend, May 13-14, SeaDek will be a sponsor of the inaugural Backcountry Purple Heart Slam at Whitewater Bay in the Everglades National Park. Hosted by Project Healing Waters (www.projecthealingwaters.org) and the United States marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment (www.woundedwarriorregiment.org), the Purple Heart Slam is a two day fishing experience for twelve active duty/retired wounded Marines (all Purple Heart recipients) in order to assist in their medical recovery and rehabilitation.
The event will be led by six volunteer fishing guides and avid recreational and tournament anglers who will guide the marines on a fishing adventure through the backcountry of the Everglades.
Project Healing Waters is an organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings.
They have a South Florida Chapter that comprises five counties, including Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Collier, and is dedicated to the national initiative by offering a venue to create an environment and tranquility.
