On May 7th and 8th, as Technical Suppliers of ORACLE TEAM USA, SeaDek personnel were on hand to witness the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series New York. The race was an historic event, returning to New York Harbor for the first time since 1920 and drawing an estimated crowd of over 175,000.
After a gloomy training day on Friday, and a sunny but calm first racing day on Saturday, Sunday brought a fresh breeze and fair skies, making for ideal racing conditions. The teams were sailing at 17 knots across the Hudson River, wowing the masses of excited spectators and vying for critical points that will count towards the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda next year.
Jason Gardner, VP of Marketing at SeaDek, and Serenity Gardner, Chief Operating Officer, were on the front lines of the race catching the action on film and providing updates on social media.
In the final winner-take-all race on Sunday afternoon, ORACLE TEAM USA was tied in points with Emirates Team New Zealand. Dealing with shifting winds and stiff currents, Emirates Team New Zealand came from behind on the final leg of the race to secure first place, with ORACLE TEAM USA coming in a close second.
