In Orlando on July 12, 2017, after a 6 year hiatus, Feet on Fire returned to The Waterfront restaurant on Lake Jennie Jewel in Orlando. This much anticipated contest is like no other because it is comprised of an invite-only team of elite athletes which ranges from wakeboarders, wakeskaters, waterskiers, show skiers, stunt men and industry veterans. The rules of the contest are simple: no barefoot suits allowed; only a pair of shorts and a flotation device. From there, two skiers at a time competed behind the boat in a ‘ring of fire’ styled course where the last one standing advances to the next round. Our friends over at Nautique Boats stepped up and pulled the course with their Nautique 200 – the same boat that set all new course records at this year’s 58th Nautique Masters. So who won, you ask? JD Webb, now a two-time Feet on Fire champion, took home first place followed by two-time U.S. National wakeboard champion Shawn Watson who took home second place. Third place was a tie between Pierce Homsey and Parks Bonifay. And of course we can’t end this article without mentioning the best crash. Who took that title? Long distance jumper and Nautique rider – Zach Worden. Shawn Watson was also awarded with the best start of the day after he launched his ski 15 feet above his head on his step off during the third round.
I think we all owe Dano the Mano, the original Feet on Fire founder, a huge congrats and thank you for bringing this event back to Orlando.
This video by Shaun Murray is an awesome recap of the event:
